Run by Gaz from a single desk, with as little infrastructure as possible, it allows SUB to stay fresh, relevant, and focus on quality above all else. Every product, every page, and every bit of the brand passes through our own two hands. We only work with companies we know and trust, and artists and designers that we love.

'If you're new to us, I started Subsurface way back in 2012, as some scrappily handwritten notes whilst sitting behind my rods on a little Hampshire gravel pit. I took my influences from the skate, surf, punk and bike worlds, taking a grass roots approach to documenting carp fishing and the characters that make it such a rich and diverse pursuit, staying true to those founding principles to this day'

UK BASED PRINTING

We have been proudly printing our books and magazines right here in the UK at an award winning carbon neutral press just outside Brighton since 2020. We only use top drawer sustainable papers, inks and processes to lay down the finest written carp content out there. Not only is it environmentally sounder all round, but we get to watch the mags rolling of the press which is still one of the best parts of all. No corners are cut anywhere in the process, they're designed to be collectible objects for the coffee table. We could get them rattled off much cheaper in a faceless factory overseas and container shipped over, but to be honest, we'd rather not...

ORGANIC COTTONS

A small, but important part of what we do, and the first brand in the angling industry to actively do so. Wherever possible we use the highest quality organic cotton - a simple but basic commitment to ethical and responsible sourcing, supporting farms that prioritise sustainability and fair labor practices. Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, reducing environmental pollution and preventing harm to ecosystems. This promotes healthier soil and water systems, preserving biodiversity in the place of origin. We don't chase the cheapest option or suppliers - instead we invest in doing things better and making products that last

CARBON NEUTRAL DISTRO

For years we packed our own orders, and shipped them from home. As we grew we realised time spent printing orders and doing courier runs wasn't the best use of our limited time, and that was better spent creating more of what you loved - quality print and clothing. We have been working with Alex and our good friends over in Braxted since 2020 now. A certified carbon neutral distributor that use a variety of processes to make as little impact as possible - with a 110% carbon capture system, involving tree planting schemes and solar farm support. We aim to minimise our environmental footprint wherever we can - from packaging, to processes, to delivery. Not only are things now way more streamlined and efficient, but it frees us up to do the good stuff

UK PRINTING

Alongside printing our books and magazines right here in the UK, we also print and finish our clothing here too. Granted, it isn't as cheap as mass production in the far east might be, but that's not why we are here, and so we print the OG proper way - with a screen and a bit of love - not only do we get the best, crispest and nicest finish on our tees and hoods, but it gives us flexibility to create unique finishes and do smaller, limited edition runs as well. We've worked with our guys in Wales for nearly a decade now, and knowing who pulls our screens is another important element of how we work
